Elevator

The bell rings

a gap widens

while slow strings

begin to call

An upward glance meets two smiles,

the second daring:

come sound these depths

of clear, cool brown

“Miss, this meeting

should not go with no word.

Could I maybe ask you

your name?”

Dizzy words,

best left unsaid.

Instead, silence speaks

until senses regroup

to form a hopeful shape-

but late!

Alone with a scent like cedar and rose,

The bell rings and the doors close.
