Writing a Poem

This paper is stamped ‘eighty-four

And it does not matter

If the trees were short and scrubby

Or that these yellowed leaves were bundled

Years before they reached my desk-

Because tonight they lie in piles

Waiting for words to leap- eyes closed – from my ink pen
